Rutland Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club takes part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out

An armed forces group slept outside as part of a challenge to raise awareness for homeless veterans.

Members of Rutland Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club last month set up camp overnight in a woodland.

The veterans spent the night around a campfire sharing stories and reflecting on memories from service life.

Group member Mark Taylor said: “The challenge doesn’t replicate rough sleeping, but it does give participants an insight into the situation too many of our nation’s heroes find themselves in.

“By sleeping out under the stars for one night in March, the intention is to raise funds and awareness to provide vital support to our Armed Forces community.”

The group raised £813 for the Royal British Legion and the date has already been set for next year, March 20, 2026.
