Plan for solar panels on Tinwell Village Hall roof

A village hall could reduce its future running costs if the go-ahead is given for rooftop solar panels.

Planning permission from Rutland County Council is being sought for panels on Tinwell Village Hall in Manor Lane, Tinwell.

Tinwell Village Hall is run as a charity and has been awarded a grant to pay for the solar panels and their installation.

A statement accompanying the planning application says: “Solar panels will significantly reduce the village hall’s energy costs, freeing up funds for other community activities,” adding that surplus energy can be sold back to the grid.

The statement also points out: “By generating electricity on site, the hall becomes less vulnerable to fluctuating energy prices.”

Although the hall is not a listed building, it lies within a conservation area and is close to the parish church, All Saints’.

But the statement points out that the solar panels face south, away from the church, and that Tinwell Manor, which is to the south, is more than 60 metres away and screened by trees and shrubs.
