Tickets on sale for The Rutland Variety Performance, at Oakham School, to honour much-loved community figure Lorna Grey

Tickets are now on sale for a one-night celebration honouring a community figure who devoted her life to helping others.

Family and friends of Lorna Grey, a much-loved Oakham resident who died last year aged 71, have organised The Rutland Variety Performance in her memory.

Residents are invited to join in an evening of music, comedy and magic, along with food and drink, at Oakham School on Wednesday, July 23.

The event will feature 17 acts, including performances from The Houndogs, The D’ukes of Rutland and The Jazettes as well as Flying Solo and The Rutland Choir.

Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Supershoes – a charity which helps children living with cancer and one which Lorna actively supported during her lifetime.

Lorna’s husband Allan said the evening will be focused on having fun as it’s something his wife would bring to any occasion.

He added: “We’re confident we have a line-up that would meet her expectations.

“We have been thrilled by the number of performers who have volunteered their time to support the cause.

“There will be a wide range of talent on show and we’ve certainly ticked the box for variety.”

Lorna was known for volunteering and fundraising for a range of charities, including Supershoes.

Her funeral raised more than £4,000 for the charity and her family have since collected a further £2,500 from a sponsored skydive.

The variety performance is another way for Lorna’s loved ones to continue raising funds for the charity. To get your tickets, click here.

The evening will begin at 6pm, giving guests the chance to enjoy food and drinks before the performances start at 7pm.

Caroline Aston, broadcaster and public speaker, and Rob Persani, Rutland and Stamford Sound’s presenter and project manager, will host the evening.
