Adam Lowe is made mayor of Oakham for 2024-25

A former mayor has returned to the post he held five years ago.

The announcement about Adam Lowe was made at the Oakham’s annual town meeting on Wednesday (May 8), at which outgoing mayor Coun Sally-Anne Wadsworth handed over the chain of office.

In accepting the role, Coun Lowe, who was previously mayor of Oakham from 2018 to 2019, said: “I would like to thank the outgoing mayor for taking on the role not just for one year, but for two, and thank her for all the work she has done in that time.”

A bouquet of flowers and ceremonial gift were presented and, as is traditional, outgoing mayors normally receive a memorial badge of office.

“But we appear to have run out of them!”, the new mayor said. “So, I am going to give you mine instead.”

Coun Lowe, who was subject to a nine-month investigation in 2021/22 after making comments to the then mayor of Oakham Zoe Nealson that were deemed to be ‘disrespectful and intimidating’, added: “As you know, I have been mayor of Oakham before, and I promise that I will try and get it right this time!”
