Oakham and District Twinning Association welcomes guests from Barmstedt in Germany
People are building links with a German community through a revived twinning programme.
Residents from Barmstedt recently spent four days in Rutland following a campaign to boost interest in the Oakham and District Twinning Association.
Their activities included a welcome meal with host families, a visit to Rockingham Castle, dinner in Uppingham, visits to Oakham Castle and Rutland County Museum and a drinks party at The George Hotel in Oakham.
The trip was rounded off with a talk by High Sheriff of Rutland Richard Cole. Other guests included the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, her deputy Jeannette Warner and Oakham mayor Adam Lowe.
Members of the Oakham’s twinning association will visit Barmstedt between September 12 and 16 and again between November 28 and December 2 to visit the Christmas market. Anyone who would like to take part can contact Adam Lowe on adamfromoakham@gmail.com or 07801 541389.
