Cottesmore AFC are beaten by Aylestone Park Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division

Individual and collective mistakes continue to frustrate Cottesmore boss John Rawdon after his side suffered their fourth successive defeat on Saturday.

The Rutland side went down to a 6-2 home reversal in their Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division clash with Aylestone Park Reserves at Westray Park.

It was the third time this season that the Leicester side have beaten Rawdon's charges following a 3-0 league win and a 6-0 Everards Tigers League Cup success over Cottesmore.

And, while the Cottesmore manager admitted their visitors were again worthy winners, he was disappointed at the manner of some of the goals that his side conceded.

They had kept their visitors at bay for the opening half-hour before Park plundered three goals in the final 15 minutes of the first period.

Rawdon commented: "Aylestone are one of the best sides that we've played this season - and they proved it again on Saturday.

"We set up to try and contain them a little bit and we were more than a match for them in the first 30 minutes.

"It's been typical of us in the last few weeks though that we've given sloppy goals away and, when that happens against a good side, they just get on top of you.

"It's my biggest frustration because we set out with a game plan which was working really well and then individual or collective mistakes just let them have easy goals."

A tight opening had seen both sides have chances to break the deadlock with Cottesmore containing their second-placed visitors well defensively.

However, they twice conceded possession cheaply in quick succession which allowed their visitors to grab a two-goal lead.

A crucial third goal followed on the stroke of half-time as Cottesmore's appeals for offside proved in vain.

They began the second half brightly as they looked for a way back into the contest but, as they pushed further forward, Aylestone exploited the gaps with two further goals.

Cottesmore did cut the deficit through Brenden Parker's eighth goal of the season as he moved off the shoulder of the centre-half before bursting clear and slotting home.

A cross-come-shot from George Dernley then floated into the top corner of the Aylestone net but, any hopes of an unexpected comeback, were then dashed when Park picked up their sixth goal of the afternoon.

Rawdon added: "We didn't just roll over after half-time and let them pick us off which was pleasing but they're a strong side on the counter-attack who were able to take the game away from us.

"It was a tough day at the office. We're on a bad run at the moment and we're conceding a lot of goals."

The defeat leaves Cottesmore in 10th spot ahead of Saturday's away match at Thurnby Rangers who are just three points and two places behind them in the table.

Rawdon said: "We need to get out of this little rut that we're in. We've got a couple of games before Christmas and hopefully we get results to start cracking on again.

"It's now a test of where we are at as a team on Saturday because Thurnby is a tough place to go and we've got to react. We've got to show that we can get a couple of wins on the board and get ourselves back up towards the top half of the table."

Cottesmore are also in action next Wednesday night (December 20) as they travel to face AFC North Kilworth.
