Uppingham Town and Ketton Sports cricket clubs are celebrating promotion




Two Rutland cricket teams were celebrating promotion on the final day of the campaign.

Ketton Sports 2nds were runners-up in Division Three of the South Lincs and Border League while Uppingham Town 2nds secured second spot in Division Six East of the Leicestershire League.

Sports clinched promotion after beating Uffington by 158 runs to cap a successful season for the club whose first team won the Division One title.

Mat Bird blasted 74 while Jonny Smith scored a half-century as Sports set 259-7 from their 45 overs.

Luca Harrison took two wickets for Uffington who were bowled out for 101 in reply despite Joe Charlton making 27.

Dylan Criddle claimed 3-38 while Smith also struck three times while just conceding one run in his 3.1 overs.

Uppingham finished just two points clear of third-placed Blaby after beating Lutterworth 3rds by seven wickets at Castle Hill.

Ollie Berridge produced an impressive spell of 5-43 while Harry Cox collected 3-30 as Lutterworth were bowled out for 132.

Cox then guided Uppingham home with an unbeaten 35 as they passed their target at the end of the 23rd over.

Uppingham's first team went down by nine wickets at Division One champions Shepshed to finish in sixth spot.

Town were dismissed for 204 with Hayden Brough hitting 58 but Shepshed opener Dean Scaysbrook smashed 15 four and four sixes in his 116 not out off just 81 balls as the title winners triumphed inside 28 overs.

Oakham ended their Premier Division campaign with a 63-run home loss against champions Rothley Park.

The visitors amassed 312-9 after batting first with Charlie Baker taking 4-26 from a tidy 10-over spell for Oakham.

Joe Johnson was trapped leg before agonisingly one run short of his century in the Oakham reply as they were dismissed for 249.

Oakham 2nds finished in the relegation places in Division Four East despite an eight-wicket win over Kibworth 3rds in their final match of the season.

Dave Falconer finished with 5-53 from his 12 overs as Oakham dismissed their hosts for 210.

An undefeated stand of 129 between Will Stuart-Jones (79no) and Henry Stephenson (70no) then saw Oakham to victory in the 38th over.

Market Overton also ended the season in the bottom two in Division Six East despite a five-wicket home win over Countesthorpe 2nds.

M Gregan grabbed 4-32 from his seven overs while Mark Hudson took 3-36 off 10 as Countesthorpe were bowled out for 133.

Opener Joe Peveritt set Marko on their way with 25 before Callum Hull hit an unbeaten 26 to secure the win at the end of the 21st over.

Wakerley and Barrowden brought the curtain down on their Division Seven East season in style with a nine-wicket win at Sileby Town 4ths.

Pete Vernon collected a couple of wickets as Sileby struck 195-4 from their 40 overs after batting first.

A superb 191-run stand between Chris White (82) and Nathan Hall (83no) secured the win for Wakerley who finished fifth in the 11-team division following promotion.
