Peterborough and District Football League round-up




Uppingham Town are on target to land their third Peterborough League Premier Division title in the last four seasons.

Town have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the table and the destiny of the title now lies in the hands of the Rutland club.

They ran out 8-4 winners over FC Peterborough Reserves at Tod's Piece on Saturday to strengthen their grip on the title race.

Second-placed Stanground Cardea Sports are unable to catch Uppingham after completing their campaign on Saturday with a 3-1 away loss at Moulton Harrox.

Crowland Town are Uppingham's strongest challengers but they suffered a double setback this week.

They lost 1-0 away at Leverington Sports on Saturday before drawing 2-2 with FC Peterborough Reserves on Tuesday night.

It leaves the Bees 10 points adrift of Uppingham with three games in hand while Moulton still have an outside chance of retaining their title.

They are 14 points adrift of Uppingham with four matches in hand and could take advantage of any slip from the pacesetters.

Uppingham and Crowland clash at Tod's Piece on Saturday before the Rutlanders complete their season in the reverse fixture on Tuesday, April 15.

Josh Sennett scored a hat-trick for Uppingham in their weekend win with Sam Blackwell bagging a brace while Ollie Lewin, Henry Moxley and Fynn Seggie were also on target.

Deeping Rangers Reserves recorded a rapid double over Holbeach United Reserves as they met twice in three days.

The Clarets claimed a 2-1 home success in Saturday's meeting with goals from Nathan Pickering and Luke Woodhouse turning the match around in their favour after McKenzie Lee had put Holbeach ahead.

Rangers then ran out 3-0 winners in the return fixture at Carter's Park on Tuesday night after goals from Beau Baines, Kee Walker and James Russell.

Bourne Town Reserves moved up into second spot in Division Two after also completing a victory double.

Arron Pike scored twice in their 3-0 away success at Stamford Lions on Saturday with Ryan Baxter also netting for the Wakes who then beat Polonia 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Pike again pocketed a goal double for Bourne with James Ferrow firing home their winner.

Oakham United Reserves lost 4-1 at home to Tydd with Jacob Hatherill hitting their goal.

Stamford Bels' second string were beaten 4-0 at home by table-topping Netherton Reserves on Saturday before bouncing back with a derby win on Tuesday night.

They defeated Stamford Lions 3-1 after goals from Dave Atkinson (two) and Lewis Morley.

Stamford AFC Reserves remain in the mix for Division Three honours after a brace of wins.

They had a 7-1 away success at Whaplode Drove Rovers Reserves on Saturday as Tanaka Govha grabbed a hat-trick for the Daniels with Joey Buckingham scoring twice while Riley Kendle and Jake Walton also netted.

Govha and Walton were both on target again in the 3-2 midweek win at Park Farm Pumas A where Dan Kettleborough also netted.

Wittering remain favourites to take the title after a 3-1 success over Sawtry Reserves where Joe Mills and Jude Bloodworth were among their scorers.

King's Cliffe were beaten 4-2 at home by Park Farm Pumas A despite goals from Jamie Dexter and Finlay Hopkins while Elsea Park Eagles lost 5-1 against Netherton A. Sam Waterfall scored their goal.

Uppingham Reserves went down to a 4-2 home loss in midweek to Stanground Cardea Sports Reserves with Josh Bryan and Archie Lambert on target.

First half goals from William Haspineall (two) and Leigh Sharp helped Ketton Sports Blue to a 3-1 away success over Glinton and Northborough Reserves in Division Four. Luke Asbury scored for the Spartans.

Wittering Reserves were 3-2 home winners over Hampton Rangers after goals from Joshua Addy, Tom Reynolds and Ben Skellett.

Stamford Lions Reserves lost 5-0 at home to league leaders Thorpe Wood with former Blackstones striker Connor Pilbeam scoring twice for the Peterborough side.
