Burgh Le Marsh egg firm Fairburn’s celebrates hat-trick wins at National Egg and Poultry Award and Lincolnshire Business Excellence Awards
An egg farm is celebrating a cracking result after winning three awards in one week.
Fairburn’s, a family-run and owned company based in Burgh Le Marsh near Skegness, fried the competition by winning double gold at the National Egg and Poultry Awards (NEPA) on July 9 and top prize at the Lincolnshire Business Excellence Awards on July 12.
22-year-old Poppy Jones received the Young Farmer of the Year award at NEPA, one of three awards specifically rewarding young people for making a difference.
In the same evening, the Fairburn’s team also won the Pullet Rearer of the Year award, in recognition of the firm’s 50 years of rearing experience and investment in its rearing sites that continue to offer world-class facilities to deliver the nation’s eggs.
Poppy, who started as a supply chain degree apprentice, said: “I was raised on a poultry farm and my Mum is a Fairburn’s producer, so agriculture and egg production run deep in our family.
“I’ve struggled with dyslexia from a young age but have never let it hold me back and I’m really proud to win this award, to show how much young people can achieve in the industry if you really want it.”
On 12 July, the company also won Family Business of the Year at the Lincolnshire Business Excellence Awards
Daniel Fairburn, CEO, said: “We’ve been on an incredible journey in recent years and we’ll continue to push boundaries and innovate, while still retaining our focus on the family values at the heart of our business.
“To be recognised by industry peers and the wider business community means so much, and to take home three major awards in one week is a testament to the passion and commitment shown by our team.
“Huge congratulations to Poppy on her award win – she’s a real inspiration and we’re incredibly proud of her.”
