Alford Craft Market to celebrate 50 years of events by involving community in banner decorating

A craft market is celebrating half a century of events by inviting residents to play a part in the commemorations.

Alford Craft Market's 50th Anniversary will be honoured with a free community project happening at its bank holiday fair in Alford Manor House from Saturday, May 25 until Monday, May 27.

People and visitors are being called to decorate the event’s 50th-year banners, with the help of textile and ceramic artist Nicki Jarvis, using wild colours to recall the vibrancy of the mid-1970s, when the first market was held.

The banners will later be embellished in the summer, using beads, recycled items and embroidery.

Once finished, they will be displayed on the Manor House railings at the Alford August Bank Holiday Weekend Craft Market as well as at other venues too.

The event will be held from 10am until 4pm each day.
