RNLI crew member Trevor Holland follows in late father’s footsteps as he is made Honorary Citizen by Skegness Town Council

A lifeboat volunteer has followed in the footsteps of his late father by being made an Honorary Citizen by a town council.

Trevor Holland’s lifelong commitment to the Skegness RNLI station has been recognised by the town council with the prestigious award, given to him yesterday.

His father, Ken Holland, from the same station, is one of the 16 others who have received the honour since they first started being offered in the 1970s.

Coun Danny Brooks said: “The honours committee and full council agreed to put forward Trevor Holland for the award to celebrate the inspirational efforts he has achieved.”

The crew member now has his name on the board of honoured citizens in the Pavillion.

Trevor said: “I would like to thank the mayor and town council for granting me this honour.

“ As a person born and bred in Skegness, this means a tremendous amount to me.

“I join the list of esteemed names of those who have gone before, most of whom I know or knew.”

He has received the recognition of service during the RNLI’s 200th anniversary year.

“Indeed over the years, several councillors have served as crew, names such as Ken Holland, Michael Clarke, and Billy Brookes to name a few.

”I would quickly like to thank my wife Paula who has put up with me disappearing for hours on end at the most inopportune of moments and all my colleagues and friends at Skegness Lifeboat Station, both past and present, who have supported me over the years in our ongoing team efforts of saving lives at sea.”
