‘We’re not here to maintain the status quo, we’re here to dismantle it!’ Mayor and ‘poor ice cream man’ among three East Lindsey councillors who have defected to Reform UK
Three councillors have defected to Reform UK.
East Lindsey district councillors Danny and Jimmy Brooks, who are brothers, have left the Skegness Urban District Society, while Coun Adrian Findley, who is the Mayor of Skegness and was previously unaligned, has also joined.
The three additions were announced by party leader Nigel Farage at a major rally held at the Lincolnshire Showground on Tuesday.
Coun Danny Brooks told the crowd: “We formed SUDS because we didn’t think there was a major political party that represented real people with real needs.
“With Reform, we finally have a party which shares our values.
“I’m just a poor ice cream man from Skegness, but my business rates have gone up 140 per cent – how can small businesses survive like that?”
Coun Findley said: “We’re not here to maintain the status quo, we’re here to dismantle it.”
Nigel Farage declared that ‘Reform is on the march’ during the campaign.
The change leaves SUDS with three sitting members, but doesn’t change the balance of power on East Lindsey District Council.
The party recently gained its first representatives on Lincolnshire County Council after South Holland councillors Robert Gibson, Manzur Hasan and Jane King defected, putting the group one seat short of Labour.
