Suspended jail sentence for woman caught in possession of knife in Skegness
Being found in possession of a blade in public has seen a woman handed a suspended prison sentence.
Teresa Curie was in stopped by police in Skegness’ Lumley Square on October 30 last year, where she was found to be carrying a steak knife.
The 52-year-old was being subjected to harassment by another person at the time, her solicitor said.
Appearing at Boston Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday, January 24), Cowie pleaded guilty to possession of the knife.
“It was around 8.25am when police received a report of Miss Cowie acting in a threatening way,” prosecutor Shelley Wilson said.
“During the search she told police there was a knife and a screwdriver in her handbag.
“They deemed Miss Cowie was having a mental health episode.”
Defending Cowie, Lisa Elkington said her client was being ‘subjected to severe harassment’ at the time of the case.
“She was in a vulnerable position and the person had tried to move themselves into her property,” she added.
The court was told that following her arrest, Cowie had received help for her mental health.
