Owners of Hatters Hotel in Skegness offer venue as grand prize in raffle with tickets just £5 - but 240,000 tickets must be sold
A seaside hotel could be up for grabs in a raffle if enough tickets at just £5 each are sold.
Owners of Hatters Hotel in Skegness, Gary, 63, and Dee Allen, 37, are offering the Alice in Wonderland-themed hotel as the grand prize in a raffle, if enough tickets are sold.
The pair are wanting to offer the hotel to a prize winner due to a decline in tourism, as well as hotels being used to house immigrants.
Gary, 67, said: “In September 2021, we were asked if we would house 51 immigrants, however we turned this down. They were then moved into other hotels.
“Since then, there has been a steady decline in tourism, so we decided to enter the hotel into a raffle.
“We need to sell 240,000 tickets to put the hotel up for the prize. That includes the hotel, stamp duty and legal fees.
“If it doesn’t reach the target, we will have to rethink what to do.”
The couple have owned the hotel for three years. They spent £300,000 converting the hotel into its Alice in Wonderland theme, inspired by Dee’s love for the film and book.
They also appeared on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed last year.
Gary added: “The opportunity is super. It’s a unique hotel and it is massive.
“It has been rewarding owning it. We have had a cracking time. We used to have bands and entertainment, as well as weddings and birthday parties.”
If not enough tickets are sold, then the winner will receive 50% of the raffle ticket sales.
