Spitfire pilot killed in air crash at RAF Coningsby




A Spitfire pilot has died in a crash during a Battle of Britain commemoration event.

The Second World War aircraft came down in a field off Langrick Road in Coningsby shortly before 1.20pm today (Saturday, May 25).

Emergency services attended but Lincolnshire Police have confirmed the death of the man who had been flying the single-seater plane as part of an event at RAF Coningsby.

No one else was injured as a result of the crash.

Officers said they are not in a position to give out his name but his next of kin have been informed.

Investigations into the cause of the crash will continue.
