Spalding 5G mast plans rejected

Plans for two 5G masts in Spalding were tonight rejected by councillors.

Members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee turned down proposals from Three to put up masts in Wygate Park and Birch Grove, off Matmore Gate.

Members agreed with council officers that the Wygate Park mast should be refused because it was an ‘unduly dominant, obtrusive and alien feature within the street scene’.

Officers had suggested that the second mast should be supported - but councillors disagreed and voted to throw this plan out too.

Both masts had drawn criticism from residents living nearby.

In summing up the debate on the Wygate Park mast, committee chairman Coun James Avery opted to quote The Jam, stating: “The public get what the public wants.”
