Lick The Future's Lips by The Little Unsaid is a defiant lust for life among uncertainty

Aptly, I suppose, little is said of The Little Unsaid, but more should be said because they are a stunning group and this is a quite beautiful album.

The English/Danish alt-pop-folk band's seventh album was written by John Elliot during Covid-19 lockdown and its songs revolve around the idea that all things are in a constant state of flux, and so much better when we embrace this fact.

Elliot's high pitched, gentle voice is matched by strong female backing vocals and simple but strong music, tracks able to switch from folk to funk in a moment as they push out a defiant lust for life among present uncertainty.

One of several outstanding tracks on the album is the euphoric, nostalgic The Great Nowhere, whereas Act of Vengeance is full of Sixties Swing and is a real call to arms for living your life to the full.

Half Alive is a country-like love song with haunting violin and the final track, Pass The Time, is a slow building, rousing lament.

These are my favourites, but there's no filler in the rest of the album either. Opening track Flux is both dreamy and funky, Bug In Amber is simple and beautiful, Bloodline has a really cool 70s vibe, whereas Limitless has an ethereal beauty and New Year's Eve and In Daylight are small, gentle gems. Some Miracle is haunting and serious against a funky bass.

I cannot believe Elliot and his band were not on my radar. They are now and I'll be hunting down their back catalogue. Enough said.
