A new sandwich shop opens in Spalding

A new sandwich shop opened in Spalding last week and the owner already has his eye on something for afters because he plans to open another business nearby for desserts.

Ahmed Rashid (36) has been in catering for more than 20 years, starting out at the tender age of 14 helping out at his uncle’s kebab and curry business.

“It’s been in the family since day one,” said Ahmed, who will divide his time between A’s Munchbox in Red Lion Street, Spalding, during the day and his night-time business, Hassan’s Grill, in Woodston, Peterborough.

A’s Munchbox opens from 10am-2pm and it’s a walk-in service for sandwiches, baguettes, rolls, baps and paninis.

Hot and cold drinks are on the menu too.

Ahmed, who comes from Peterborough, hopes his panini offering will bring something a little different to Spalding with fillings such as peri peri chicken.

Fillings on offer for the snack of your choice will include ham, pepperoni, salami, white cheese, red cheese and tuna mayo.

“We do all the salads as well,” said Ahmed. He may add fast food, such as burger and chips, to the menu at a later stage.

Ahmed said: “I am hoping to get the business up and running and get some trade in and get established a little bit.”

Next on his “to do list” is to open a brand new desserts shop just around the corner and that will serve tempting treats such as waffles, cookie doughs, crepes and milk shakes.

Ahmed opened A’s Munchbox on August 3, deciding it was the right moment after lockdown, with work returning to normal, and says trade has so far been steady.
