A second access route to Bicker Fen solar farm approved
A second access route to a solar farm has been approved by planners.
Vicarage Drove Energy Centre Limited - who are behind the 80 hectare project in Bicker - applied for the amendment due to a road closure that ‘would restrict the access route’ for the under-construction development.
The route will run via Bicker Drove to the A17 via the Triton Knoll haul road, a private road which is used to service the substation.
“As set out in the background information above, works required for cable installation for the adjacent Bicker Fen Solar Farm will result in a TTRO (temporary traffic regulation order) road closure that would restrict the construction access route for the proposed development, which is currently under construction,” a letter by agent DWD Property and Planning said.
“It is proposed that in addition to the approved heavy goods vehicle traffic route, heavy goods vehicles will be able to use the additional access during the construction of the proposed development.
“The proposed revised route would enable access to the site and continuation of construction activities when the route to the south is restricted by the TTRO closure.
“In addition to the revised route as part of this application, the applicant is committing to left hand turning only off the A17 and the erection of temporary lighting at the junction between the A17 and the private Triton Knoll Haul Road to make drivers aware of its location.”
The application for the access road has been approved by Boston Borough Council.
The Vicar Drove Solar farm will be a 66MW site site near Bicker Fen which will generate enough power for 14,000 homes.
