A17 to shut at Sutton Bridge, with Cross Keys Bridge to be raised for 45 minutes for large commercial ship

The A17 will be closed to motorists for 45 minutes this evening at Cross Keys Bridge.

The historic Sutton Bridge structure, which spans the River Nene, needs to swing open to allow a large commercial ship to pass.

Officials say this is expected to happen at 6.45pm – with the road closed until 7.30pm.

Drivers are being warned to expect long delays in both directions.

The official alternative route is via Wisbech on the A1101 and then via the A47 back to the A17.
