Large crack in road between Crowland and Cowbit causes concern
Concerns have been raised after a large crack appeared in a road.
Rodney Sadd fears an accident will happen as a result of the gap in the road around Whip Chicken Corner, between Cowbit and Crowland.
Mr Sadd discovered the crack while cycling along the old A1073 last week - and was even able to place his bike wheel within the gap.
Lincolnshire County Council has recently repaired the road and has blamed the latest problems on ground movement.
Mr Sadd said: “There is a hole in the road and I was able to get my drinks bottle down it.
“It is really going to cause an accident or injury.
“My drinks bottle is about 8in and I almost lost it.”
Mr Sadd said he had been impressed with the previous repairs which had been undertaken on the road.
He said: “They have recently done a substantial repair as there are dykes on each side of the road.”
The county council says it is arranging remedial works on the road to ensure safety.
A spokesman said: “Unfortunately, the crack has been caused by ground movement and a combination of the types of underlying soils and drought conditions.
“The repairs were completed to a high standard as per local and national specifications.
“There is very little which can be done to guarantee that significant ground movement won’t have the potential for failures like this, of course it’s disappointing that it’s happened despite using flexible construction and designing for a long life.”
