Four sets of plans for Crowland could deliver 92 new homes for town
Almost 100 new homes could be given the go-ahead for a town if councillors vote in favour of four different applications this week.
If approved by South Holland district councillors tomorrow, 92 new homes would be built in Crowland within one small area.
An application submitted by Ashwood Homes would see 42 dwellings built on land south west of Harrington Drive.
Two further applications, submitted by Ashley King Developments, would see a further five to the north west and five more to the south east of the road.
Another application, submitted by Holbeach based Lion Investment Group, proposes a further 40 homes to be built on Barbers Drove North.
Both locations are just a short distance from each other and previous applications for sites off Harrington Drive have been refused.
However, an application to build 41 dwellings on land off Barbers Drove North was approved in early 2022.
The new application states that an existing property on the site - 17 Barbers Drove North - would now be retained, rather than demolished as per the previous plans.
Commenting on the 42 dwelling plan for land south west of Harrington Drive, Crowland Parish Council called for traffic calming measures.
A statement read: “With this development, added to existing new developments, all exiting onto James Road, we would like to see some traffic calming measures introduced on this road. The current limit is 50mph, which could be reduced to 30mph, with speed camera or mini roundabouts on the main junctions.”
The parish council has also requested a financial contribution towards the replacement of the Pavilion and Young Building on Snowden Playing Field, from both Ashwood Homes and Lion Investment Group.
The estimated costs for plans to develop a sports pavilion, youth club and community building differ in the applications, but range between about £800,000 - £1million.
The NHS has also requested £34,320 from Ashwood Homes and a further £28,380 from Lion Investment Group.
Lion Investment Group’s application for 40 homes has been met with similar concerns about traffic, with the parish council calling for a 40mph speed limit on James Road.
All four applications have been recommended for approval at Wednesday night’s planning committee.
