Flatlands Alpacas open day in Crowland to see launch of new children’s book The Search For An Alpaca
The owner of Flatlands Alpacas Farm is gearing up for a weekend of celebrations as she prepares for the launch of her children’s book.
Louise Holland was inspired by the herd she looks after and has written a whimsical tale that aims to educate and capture the imagination of children aged between three and nine.
‘The Search For An Alpaca’ follows a young boy on his journey to discover what an Alpaca is whilst meeting lots of farmyard animals along the way.
Louise said: “ I do enjoy writing – I wrote the book because I couldn’t find an interesting and educational children’s story about alpacas for my gift shop.
“It is a children’s rhyming story but is also educational and factual as it is full of facts all about alpacas.”
The open day and book launch will take place on Sunday, August 27, between 10am and 2pm.
Visitors can get the chance to meet and feed the alpacas, goats and Dobbie the Gosling. There will also be a charity and craft stall along with a bbq served by the local butchers.
The tea hut will be open for refreshments and Louise will be on hand to sign attendees’ copies of the book.
Alongside the launch of the book, Louise has introduced a ‘herd club’ which goes in conjunction to the tale. Children can join the new club and become a ‘member of the herd’ – which is a line from the book.
Being part of the club will give you benefits such as getting a birthday card on your special day, a membership card, magazine, two free entries a year for Flatland Alpacas and discounts on other experiences.
The book is currently available for pre-order which can be purchased from the Flatland Alpacas website.
After the launch day visitors can buy it directly from the website or in the gift shop on site.
Louise said: “I am in talks with local book shops to see if they would like to sell it - I’m hoping it will be available in lots of local shops.
“It’s just something nice to do and I’m very excited but a bit nervous.”
The open day will cost £4 per person and children under 3 can attend for free. Book on the website or call Louise on 07734 266097.
