Flatland Alpacas animals on top form for open day and book launch in Crowland
The Flatland Alpacas animals were on top form for visitors at the weekend - as owner Louise Holland celebrated the launch of her first book.
Visitors were welcomed to the Crowland venue’s open day on Sunday - which marked the book launch of ‘The Search For An Alpaca’.
The book is a children's story that follows a young boy on his journey to discover what an Alpaca is, whilst meeting lots of farmyard animals along the way.
Attendees enjoyed meeting and feeding the alpacas, goats and Dobbie the Gosling. There was also a charity and craft stall along with a barbecue served by the local butchers.
Louise said: “It was really good – the weather was nice and we sold a lot of books and signed a lot of books which was good.
“I also got some really nice feedback about the illustrations throughout the book.
“A lot of the children were really happy as one of the animals in the book is Jesse our goat, they got to see the animals and read the book and put the two together.”
Alongside the launch of the book, Louise has introduced a ‘herd club’ which goes in conjunction to the tale. Children can join the new club and become a ‘member of the herd’ – which is a line from the book.
Being part of the club will give you benefits such as getting a birthday card on your special day, a membership card, magazine, two free entries a year for Flatland Alpacas and discounts on other experiences.
Louise said: “I think it is definitely important to keep children engaged with reading. I wrote it as a rhyming story because I know from personal experiences when my son was younger, when they remember the rhyme and you read the story to them, it helps teach them to read at the same time.
“I feel really pleased with how it all went, it was really really good.
“All of the alpacas are happy because they have seen lots of people and eaten lots of carrots.”
