Spalding man's anger at NHS and Crowland reader's idea about Neighbourhood Watch

Lost in the NHS system twice

How long do you think it takes to get an urgent chest X-ray at the Johnson Community Hospital in Spalding?

Here’s a brief background to my question.

In October 2021, I was admitted to Peterborough City Hospital via ambulance with a myasthenia gravis relapse. Although I had my two main Covid injections in February and April of 2021, I caught Covid in the A&E on my third day.

My symptoms were very mild. I was discharged in November and I had unresolved breathing and heart issues. On January 15, my GP gave me a letter to take to A&E and I went to Peterborough General Hospital A&E as my breathing problem was worsening.

I went there and was both lost and forgotten and came home after six hours as I didn’t feel well with my type 2 diabetes. I was in bed when I took a call at 11.41pm asking me was I still in the hospital. I said no, I was at home. This is now subject to a full investigation by the chairman of the PCH after my lengthy complaint.

On January 27, my GP at the Johnson Spalding GP surgery put in an urgent request for blood tests and a chest X-ray to determine why I have breathing issues. I had the blood tests on the same day.

As for the X-ray, despite a number of calls to the practice over the past week they or me are none the wiser as to a firm date.

Like Peterborough City Hospital, I have been lost and forgotten yet again. So 14 days on and still nobody there at the Johnson can give me a date for this ‘urgent’ chest X-ray. As of today (February 9), I am awaiting a call from the practice manager which has yet to happen.

I suspect I have got long-term Covid problems with my heart and lungs... but I’m not a GP. Since the NHS keep losing me in their systems, I am none the wiser as to what I do have. I no longer go out unless I’m with friends as I get breathless easily and have to stop often. I never had this before Covid. A prisoner in my own home is the best way to describe life.

So perhaps someone from Lincolnshire NHS would like to ring me or come into print and tell me when in 2022 I will be getting this so-called ‘X-ray’ please?

Make the most of special weekend

I note from my Lincolnshire Neighbourhood Watch Supporter’s Newsletter that this year will mark 40 years of Neighbourhood Watch.

Neighbourhood Watch Week will be from May 30 to June 5, which falls on the same weekend as the Queen’s Jubilee Bank Holiday.

In our town’s and villages there are signs depicting where the Neighbourhood Watch areas are, but are there still active groups?

There are so many new developments in Lincolnshire and we may live near new neighbours that we don’t know. So during the above week what an ideal opportunity we all have to get to know our local communities better by getting involved with a street party or community event.

Also NW groups could be reviewed where they have become inactive and the local authorities could raise the profile for people to play an active role within these groups. With so many police stations lost, we all have our concerns regarding crime and we cannot replace that real police officer but we can raise our concerns.

Why not take this opportunity to make things better and safer in all our local communities?

Even if it’s looking out for our elderly neighbour and getting to know them better by having that key conversation.

We can let things stay as they are, or together we can make that difference.
