Another broadband firm looks to invest in 'forgotten' Spalding
Another company has announced it will install gigabit broadband in Spalding.
Netomnia says it is making a £15 million investment in Spalding and Boston to bring the area up to full-fibre standard.
This follows the news that Lightspeed Broadband also plans to invest in better internet networks in Spalding, Long Sutton, Holbeach, Bourne and Market Deeping.
Ark ICT solutions is also hoping to provide better broadband connections for those not covered by town schemes.
Netomnia says it has picked towns that have been 'forgotten' by other broadband providers - and says it has already started work in both towns.
Only eight areas in England suffer from slower broadband than South Holland.
Average download speeds here are 40.6Mbps - but Netomnia says some households could get up to 10GB on its networks, almost 250 times faster than the current rate.
Netomnia acts as a wholesaler to other Internet service providers (ISPs) such as YouFibre - which expects to offer packages in Spalding in July this year.
Netomnia says it will cover 50,000 businesses and residential properties in towns and surrounding villages - but the exact area is not yet known.
Construction work is set to take 18 months, with company Light Source chosen to build the networks.
Full fibre uses fibre-optic cables to deliver broadband services all the way to premises, providing faster speeds and more reliable service than copper-based networks.
Netomnia says better broadband can boost the local economy and make the area more attractive for new businesses.
Jeremy Chelot, Netomnia founder and CEO, said: “Full fibre is vital to the development of local economies, and recent times have proven the vital role that good, reliable connectivity plays in enabling communities and businesses to continue to thrive.
“Boston and Spalding aren’t just commercial opportunities for Netomnia. The Internet transforms lives, it’s a great leveller; if you haven’t got it or you’ve a poor connection you’re disadvantaged. I want to see the prosperity the Internet can bring to towns where others haven’t bothered to turn up or have made minimum effort. Netomnia’s desire to connect people, in previously forgotten but now fast towns and the level of service from our ISP YouFibre is already embarrassing Internet pretenders, and that drives us forward.”
