Another great year for Spalding's Springfields -and phase 3 to open next year
Springfields Outlet and Leisure in Spalding is celebrating 16 years of continuous growth – and is planning for the next phase of its development.
Since the reopening of retail post-lockdown in April 2021, weekly sales have consistently delivered double-digit growth up on 2019.
This culminated in the final Christmas week, with sales up 19% on 2019.
Comparable December turnover was up 30% against 2020, outside Covid restrictions periods.
Springfields says their sell-out annual firework display kicked off a record-breaking festive period, with more than 36,000 people visiting their Winter Wonderland Walk.
Springfields Outlet director Ian Sanderson said: “Springfields is an ongoing success story, and we are looking forward to even more growth in 2022 as we get ready to open Phase 3 next year.
“We had a vision when we designed Springfields to combine outlet and outdoor family leisure and have improved it every year.”
A start date is yet to be confirmed for the £14million Phase 3 development, which will see 18 new shops, cafes and restaurants added to the 45-acre Camelgate site.
Two office buildings currently used by NFU Mutual and Springfields Horticultural Society will be demolished to make room for the new stores, 15 of which will sell so-called ‘comparison’ rather than outlet, end-of line goods that have been reduced in price. The extension will create 350 jobs and see Springfields pump £200,000 into Spalding town centre on top of the £1million it has provided since 2004.
