Application to convert former Coneys store in Spalding is withdrawn from tonight’s South Holland District Council planning committee agenda

Plans to convert a former department store into a community hub will not be discussed at tonight’s planning committee meeting.

Members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee were due to debate The Lighthouse Pentecostal Church’s application to change the use of Coneys in Broad Street, Spalding, at their meeting later today.

But the change of use application has been withdrawn from the agenda.

A council spokesman said: “It has become evident that there is material information that has not been fully considered at the present time, hence until it has the item is not ready for deliberation by the Committee.”

Planning officers had recommended that councillors refuse the bid to create a church, cafe, food bank and soft play area within the former Hills Department store on the grounds that the loss of a prime retail site would harm the town centre.

The Lighthouse Church had expressed its disappointment over the reccommendation - which has sparked some passionate debate in the town with some people agreeing and others calling on officers to ‘get real’.
