‘Be mindful you are serving a suspended sentence!’ Jail warning for Spalding man fined £200 after smoking joint
Smoking a joint has seen a man given a £200 fine - and a reminder to stay out of trouble or face prison.
Spalding resident Cian Windsor pleaded guilty to a charge of cannabis possession when he appeared before Boston magistrates on Wednesday (July 2).
Prosecutor Shelley Wilson told the court the 21-year-old - who is serving a suspended prison sentence for the possession of Class A drugs - was spotted cycling through town by police on foot patrol at 11.25am on March 19.
“They noticed the smell of cannabis and he (Windsor) said he had not long smoked a joint,” Ms Wilson said.
“He also said he had some in his possession.”
A further search of Windsor’s Petrel Drive home found another small quantity of cannabis, the court was told.
Ms Wilson added that the defendant recently received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.
However, as this incident pre-dates that case Windsor could not be jailed.
Defending Windsor, Phillipa Chatterton said her client - who suffers from ADHD and autism - was doing ‘really well’ with a drug rehabilitation requirement imposed after his conviction.
“This is a simple possession of a small amount for his own use,” she said.
“He displayed all the signs of just having smoked cannabis.”
Magistrates fined Windsor £80 and ordered him to cough up £85 in costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
They also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drug.
Addressing Windsor, chairman of the bench Robert Skinner said: “Be mindful you are serving a suspended sentence. Don’t get caught again.”
