A Cowbit model is a step closer to her dream of being a national beauty queen after reaching the Grand Final of Miss Great Britain.

Alexandra "Lexi" Mount (21) has guaranteed her place in September's gala final in Leicester after she was named Miss Rutland 2018 just before the bank holiday weekend.

The ex-Spalding High School student can add the title to that of Miss Lincolnshire which she took three years ago, going on to be one of 50 finalists at Miss Great Britain 2015.

Alexandra, also an ex-pupil of Moulton Chapel Primary School, said: "The judges deemed me worthy to be Miss Rutland after a lot of work, some charity proposals, pictures, different interview stages and application forms.

"Basically, it was just like applying for a job, except it was a lot more thorough and I'm so excited to be heading to the Miss Great Britain Grand Final in September."

Alexandra's journey towards beauty queen status started about five years ago when a friend suggested that she should enter a contest to be Miss Cambridgeshire.

She said: "In 2015, I was named Miss Lincolnshire as part of the Miss Great Britain competition so I'm looking forward to going back to the finals again.

"At my first Grand Final, I think I was more worried about my appearance than what I'd been doing with the Miss Lincolnshire title I already had.

"Now I'm planning a number of charity events and getting involved in the community more which has been amazing."

Miss Great Britain was first held in 1945 under the name "Bathing Beauty Queen" and recent winners have included TV presenter Debbie Greenwood (1984) and model Danielle Lloyd (2006).

Alexandra said: "Over the time I've had off since being named Miss Rutland, I've watched previous regional winners and looked at how they carried out their roles over the year.

"Beauty contests are definitely something I want to become good at and use to help my village and the community I represent."
