Bid to protect Port Sutton Bridge from flooding is welcomed
A proposal to protect Port Sutton Bridge from flooding and ensure it is compliant with anti-terrorism laws has been welcomed by a councillor.
The owners have applied to South Holland District Council for fencing, gates, earth bund and associated landscaping.
One aim is to secure the quay with a defined route for members of the public so that they are safe.
Ward member Coun Michael Booth said: “I totally agree that they certainly need to make the port safe so people can’t wander onto the quayside when the ships are unloading.
“I am concerned about Petts Lane and vehicles getting round. I don’t want to see lots of vehicles going down there.”
In terms of the anti-terrorism measures he added: “I am pleased to see that they are taking it on board.”
Concerns were also expressed that the plans would keep people away from the public footpath.
