Plans to convert Spalding grot spot Bull and Monkie site into care home are deferred
Plans to covert a grot spot into a care home have been deferred.
Crispen Holdings want to demolish the derelict Bull & Monkie on Spalding’s Church Gate to make way for an 88 bedroom care home.
Members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee were recommended to approve the application during their meeting tonight (Wednesday, April 10) but opted to defer it over concerns about the scale and impact on the area.
The proposals have received a number of objections which had raised concerns that the four-storey building would be too imposing for the riverside site along with questioning whether 13 proposed parking spaces would be enough to serve the care home.
The Bull and Monkie has been an eyesore in the Churchgate area for many years with calls made locally to tidy up the area.
Coun Paul Redgate proposed the deferment in order for more conversations to take place with the developer in order over the size, scale and parking.
But the need to develop the site and to find a viable use was highlighted by Coun Bryan Alcock and Coun Henry Bingham.
A total of 13 councillors voted in favour of the deferral and two were against.
