Two hour queues for jabs as more than 300 people got vaccine at Spalding walk-in clinic

Queues of about two hours were reported as more than 300 people took the chance to get their Covid-19 vaccine at Springfields last Wednesday.

The pop-up clinic in Spalding gave people the chance to turn up and get their first or second dose of the jab with no prior appointment.

The session ran a week after 16 and 17-year-olds were first able to attend walk-in clinics for a vaccine - and an NHS spokesman said that a large proportion of the people at last week’s session were of younger ages.

The spokesman said: “The team had a busy time at Springfields, which we were really pleased about.

“I understand more than 300 people attended for a vaccination, and they were all very good natured whilst they waited.”

No further dates have been confirmed for future walk-in clinics - but people can attend the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Wyberton Fen.

Its clinic runs 8.30am to 7pm, seven days a week - with a free shuttle bus running from Boots in Boston until Friday.

In total, 81.5% of adults in South Holland have had one dose of the vaccine and 75.1% have had both jabs.

At the time of press, the Covid rate was 271.2 per 100,000 people - below the national average of 353.5.

That equates to 243 people having tested positive for the virus in the seven days to August 29.
