Holbeach butcher's show of solidarity

A Holbeach butcher has created two extra special Ukrainian inspired products to help raise funds for the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal.

Ben Tindale, manager at G Shearer & Son Butchers, in Damgate, is making Chicken Kyiv inspired Easy Carve Birds and Ukrainian Kovbasa Sausages to help raise funds for those who have been forced to flee their homes due to the war in Ukraine.

Ben said staff at the shop just wanted to do something to help the humanitarian crisis and will donate fifty per cent of the money made through the sale of these products to the charity appeal.

“It’s a pretty dire situation and we just wanted to do a little something to help,” he said.

“As much as it’s all political as to why it’s happening, these people are being affected and it’s not their fault. We only plan to run the specials for a couple of weeks, but they are already selling well.”

The Chicken Kyiv inspired Easy Carve Bird is a whole chicken boned and rolled with a wild garlic and herb stuffing and streaky bacon wrap.

The Ukrainian Kovbasa sausages are a mix of pork shoulder and beef chuck , seasoned with salt, black and cayenne pepper, garlic, smoked paprika and allspice.

The two specials are available for a limited time until Sunday, April 3 and Ben advises ordering in advance to avoid disappointment.
