Well-known shop worker in Crowland loses four stone in ten months after treatment for cancer of the womb
A Crowland shop worker has a healthy view of life after losing nearly four stone in ten months.
But Sue Grimwood (57), of Millfield Gardens, had a much bigger weight on her mind two years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer of the womb.
After treatment, Sue went to a slimming group in Crowland run by mum-of-two Sarah Phillips.
Sue, who works at Crowland's Co-op Food Store, in West Street, said: "I wasn't very happy with myself because of my cancer.
"I had to have a lot of bed rest and got very depressed because I weighted 17st.
"In January this year, my daughter-in-law asked me to come to a slimming group to give her some back-up.
"But while she stopped going after three weeks, I kept going to the point where my weight went down from 17st to 13st in ten months.
"My target weight is 14st and I feel like a totally different person now, having gone down from size 24 to 16."
Sue's weight loss saw her named "Miss Slinky" for October, an accolade awarded by fellow group members to the person whose confidence has grown the most after losing weight.
She said: "I found it so easy to lose weight by just cutting out rubbish foods.
"I do have a Chinese meal once a week, but mostly I just have healthy things that are freshly cooked from scratch.
"Alcohol was the main thing to go, having drank pints of cider before which I don't drink any more.
"Now it's diet soft drinks and I don't miss cider at all."
Sue is one of about 140 members of three slimming groups run by Sarah on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Sarah, of Spalding, said: "Sue isn't the loudest person in the group.
"But she always stays behind to talk to other members which is why she was nominated for Miss Slinky in October.
"I've been running the groups for nearly two years and we're a family.
"My mum and my daughters come and help out because it's a really lovely group where people make their own friends and encourage each other."
Sue said: "I didn't have the willpower to lose weight before, but now I've just got to stick at it."
