Palmers in Long Sutton hosting board game cafe and paint and sip sessions

A board game café and paint and sip sessions are some of the more unusual activities pub-goers in Long Sutton can take advantage of.

The team at Palmers Ale House and Kitchen, in Market Place, are hosting a number of evening activities to entertain their regulars and help draw in new customers.

Manager Sophie Holden said each Wednesday of the month is dedicated to something different with the board game café held on the first, paint and sip on the second, pub quiz on the third, musical bingo on the fourth and in those months where there is a fifth the venue shows a movie.

‘We started hosting the pub quizzes and musical bingo nights last year and they went down well but alternating them each week meant we were sometimes hosting three quizzes a month, which felt a bit much, so we decided to add in some other fun nights,’ said Sophie.

The board game café costs £2 per person and runs from 5pm until closing at 11pm. As well as family favourites such as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Jenga, Palmers also has other niche and modern games for customers to play, including Ticket to Ride and Pandemic. Sophie added that staff have played them all and are on hand to help anyone with the rules if they’re playing something new.

Sip and Paint is £15 per person and includes all artist materials and the first drink, plus discount on other drinks bought during the evening.

‘When we’re kids, we paint all the time, but when we get into our adult years people don’t tend to so much. People can come in here, all the materials are provided, and they can paint whatever they like,’ Sophie added. ‘They can spend the evening sketching, working on something really detailed – or finger paint if they want! It’s all about doing an activity and having an enjoyable time.

‘We’re finding that people don’t necessarily want to go for a big night out. They want to go out with friends and do something fun – that’s what these nights are all about.’

The pub has shown Dirty Dancing and Baby Driver and will host its next movie night in August when Mamma Mia will be screened, accompanied by Greek themed food.
