PHOTO GALLERY: Indian workshops at Sutton St James Primary
Pupils from reception to Year 6 took part in the Indian experience day at Sutton St James Primary School.
The day was led by Sunita Patel, from The Indian Experience, who delivers cultural workshops.
She held an assembly focusing on the spring festival of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours.
Reception class teacher Sandra Horsefield said the school decided to hold the day in the hope of extending the children's knowledge and understanding of different cultures.
One of the activities involved Rangoli artwork, patterns inspired by nature which are commonly drawn on the floor by front doors during Diwali.
And Reception pupils were given the opportunity to dress up in traditional Indian clothing and partake in some Bollywood-style dancing.
Sunita also ran sessions about Hinduism, the beliefs of Hindus and their worship.
The whole school clearly enjoyed the day and the experience as a whole, their understanding of different religions and cultures was improved in an exciting, enjoyable way.
