Spalding tip's booking system now under review
Council chiefs are now conducting a review into the booking system that’s in place for users of Spalding’s tip.
People who want to visit Spalding Household Waste Recycling Centre in West Marsh Road need to book ahead to use the facility - with appointments available up to ten days in advance.
In the runup to the county council elections, authority leader Martin Hill promised to make the tips ‘more accessible and easier for people to use’ - especially given the number of concerns around fly tipping raised in the county.
The authority has confirmed that the booking system will now be looked at again.
Coun Hill said: “We have the booking system for the Household Waste Recycling Centres under review. We’re looking at how the system is working, and how we can make it easier and more accessible for people.
“This is, of course, in line with the government road map and the expected lifting of social distancing restrictions.”
In April, the county council expanded the number of slots available to book at the Spalding tip - raising them to 336 a day, or 1,680 a week.
The facility is currently shut on Tuesdays and Wednesday - with trailer days on Mondays and Fridays and a permit system in place for people with vans and trailers.
In the run up to the election, Coun Hill spoke about the issue in a campaign video that was published on Twitter. In that, he promised: “We had to have some restrictions in place during the Covid outbreak but now things are beginning to loosen up I do think we can look at how to make the tips more accessible and easier for people to use so their really will be no excuse for people to chuck it on the roadside and cause a terrible mess.”
