Lincolnshire County Council has no plans to improve A16 at Crowland or A151 at West Pinchbeck despite complaints

Highways bosses have ruled out plans to improve two sections of major roads - despite their poor condition.

Lincolnshire County Council has completed a £2.3million scheme to repair a three-mile section of the A16 between Cowbit and Crowland which was beset with potholes.

But calls have been made on the council to finish the job with more resurfacing work further along the A16 —with a number of complaints raised via the Fix My Street reporting system.

The £80 million A16 link to Peterborough was opened in 2010, but highways chiefs recently said the stretch of road was ‘set up for failure’ due to underfunding and geological issues.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways at LCC said: "There are currently no further resurfacing works planned for the A16, although a feasibility study is underway to identify possible future improvements.

"We recognise that sections beyond the recently completed works are showing signs of wear, it’s worth noting however that the completed scheme was significantly extended, reaching as far as Radar Corner (B1166/James Road junction) with an additional £1.5 million invested and approximately 3.3km added to the original programme.

"Countywide, available funding for main roads has been prioritised for routes in a more poor overall condition than the remaining sections of the A16 towards the county boundary.

"We very much continue to encourage residents to report issues via FixMyStreet which is a valuable tool that our team uses in addition to carrying out monthly safety and condition inspections in line with the Lincolnshire Highways Infrastructure Asset Management Plan.

"These inspections, plus FMS reports, help us get pothole gangs to the areas most in need and we will continue with responsive repairs as necessary."

Concerns have also been raised about the state of Dozens Bank at West Pinchbeck - which is part of the main A151 route between Spalding and Bourne.

Parts of the road appear to be subsiding and there are a large number of potholes for motorists to avoid.

But this road is also not earmarked for improvements.

Ms Cassar said: "There are no resurfacing works planned for this location for the next year, line marking refresh works are planned as part of the 2025/26 programme.

"As with other routes that are strategically important for the local traffic network, the road is inspected every month by our highways officers for safety and condition. Where problems that meet intervention levels are found, our teams carry out repairs to ensure the road remains safe for use."
