Movember 2019: For the first time, in nearly eight years, this Spalding barber is going beardless for charity
It’s been about seven and a half years since Steve Jackson was clean shaven and he’s grown quite attached to his beard.
But, all in the name of charity, he will be having his beard shaved off at the end of this month.
The 28-year-old, who works at Stuart's The Barber Shop in New Road, Spalding, said: “My beard must be about eight or nine inches long now.
“I’ve decided to shave it off for Movember UK, which raises money for research into prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health."
The beard will be shaved off at a 'vape night' in shop 888 Vapour, in Sheep Market, on Thursday, October 31, between 6-8pm.
Steve, who is also a former student of Spalding Grammar School, added: "My partner Sally (Grooby) works in the shop and I'm a customer there so I decided to do the shave in the shop."
Sally and Steve have been together for almost the entire time he has had the beard. Asked what Sally made of the beard coming off, Steve laughed: "She's supportive - that's all I'll say!
"I have always had a beard, since I was 15. I had to shave it off for work and then as soon as I could have a beard again I grew it back."
Once Movember arrives, he'll be growing a moustache to help raise further funds for the charity.
As a barber, Steve plans to shave his beard off himself at the event in 888 Vapour. To help Steve fundraise, you can donate in charity boxes around Spalding in 888 Vapour, Pacey's Bakery in Red Lion Street, the South Holland Centre and Strange Apparitions at Baytree Garden Centre in Weston.
Colin Wallers, manager at 888 Vapour, said: "Steve has been a customer of mine for years and I think what he is raising awareness of is brilliant."
You can also donate via Stuart The Barber Shop's Facebook page.
