Number 57 Stagecoach bus service no longer comes to Spalding
Our area’s branch of a bus service has been axed due to it not proving ‘viable’.
The number 57 service which ran from Skegness to Spalding no-longer comes as far as South Holland.
Stagecoach continue to run the service between the seaside and Boston, but the remainder of the journey is now not in operation.
The service operator said they extended the route to Spalding in a bid to attract more customers to make the journey in both directions.
And while the number of passengers did improve, that was not enough to make the route work financially.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We constantly keep our services under review.
“We extended the service from Boston to Spalding a few years ago to see if we could increase the market for public transport between the two towns by providing a faster link.
“Unfortunately, whilst we did increase numbers travelling this was not enough to make the service viable.”
Stagecoach did, however, point out that the route remains possible for people hoping to get from Spalding to Skegness and vice-versa if they are willing to change.
“Whilst the 57 no longer operates there are still regular buses between Boston and Spalding provided by another operator," the spokesperson added.
