Main road in Holbeach closed after 'sinkhole' opens up near school
Diversions are in place around Holbeach after a "sinkhole" appeared in one of the town's busiest roads.
Engineers from the county's highways department are investigating why a sinkhole appeared in Boston Road South, Holbeach, on Friday just before 4.30pm.
Holbeach county councillor Nick Worth said: " I had to go to Tesco Superstore on Friday evening but diversions were in place then, so I ended up going to the Co-op on Fleet Street instead.
"There were diversions at the top of Boston Road South by the roundabout and at the other end by the traffic lights.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "We were called at 4.28pm on Friday about a sinkhole on Boston Road South, Holbeach.
"Highways were alerted and the road was closed."
It is not known when the road will be repaired and reopened.
A Lincolnshire County Council highways spokesman said: "Boston Road South is currently closed due to a hole in the carriageway.
"An investigation is currently taking place to identify the cause of the problem, after which steps will be taken to repair it.
"It is not possible to say how long the road will need to be closed at this early stage and, in the meantime, traffic is being diverted via the A17 and Park Road."
