Gosberton butcher's shop is sold on to couple with a bright future
A Gosberton butcher’s shop has been sold after two of its customers went away with more than they bargained for.
Trevor Sharpe Butchers, in High Street, is to be taken over by David Firth and Ann Beaver, of Grange Farm Produce & Butchery, which is based in Sutterton.
Mr Sharpe, who has been running the business for 34 years, said that he is pleased to have sold the business to the couple.
He said: “They were actually customers!
“I had been talking to them in the shop about it being up for sale as I knew that they had been selling beef boxes and they have their own cattle.
“After we had a chat they said that they wanted to buy it.
“So they came in for a sausage roll and left with a butcher’s!”
Mr Sharpe will remain at the shop for the next year to help the couple find their feet within the business.
It is expected that David and Ann will be selling British meat and produce when they begin to settle in next year, with the Grange Farm Produce vegetable and beef shop in Sutterton remaining as it is currently.
Alongside the butcher’s, Mr Sharpe also runs a hog roast business - Trevor Sharpe’s Hog Roasts - which he will be continuing with separately.
He said: “I’m tied in to stay for the next year to help in the shop and we will see in the new year how they are going to go about their plans and opening hours.
“The idea after selling the shop was always to concentrate more on the hog roasts, which is what I’m going to do now that it’s sold.
“I think it’s fantastic they’ve bought it and I want to come by in ten years’ time and see it thriving with them - that’s what I hope will happen.”
