In the fast paced world of the 21st century, with modern society and local authority work, the need to embrace new and emerging communications opportunities when they appear is more important than ever.

It allows us all to maximise on exciting opportunities and can open doors too, offering invaluable help in a range of areas, including adding efficiency in working practices, helping with cost saving and improving communication, three things always high in the consideration of your council to provide the best service to residents.

This is why digitalisation is such a crucial part of how South Holland District Council operates, and how we look to develop and move forwards in the future. This applies across everything that we do, internally and externally, constantly working to improve the experience for everyone, residents across the district, councillors and staff.

Within our offices, we are striving to move forward on this new digital focus wherever we can, with a collective transition away from paper and printing where possible in favour of making sure that as many documents and pieces of correspondence are stored and shared securely digitally.

This will have positive outcomes across numerous levels, reducing officer time spent sorting and searching through printed papers, allowing them to provide the right services at the time and in the right way. It will also reduce the financial cost of printing, saving public money for vital front-line services, whilst having a positive environmental impact as well through the reduction in paper consumption.

Our website also takes these steps to present a quick and easy online solution to the modern needs of our residents. The sheer volume of information available is phenomenal, offering in-depth help on anything from licensing for taxis through to your next waste collection date. It also provides a plethora of options to make essential payments, give feedback online or report issues needing attention.

Interactions like this would normally have always taken place over the phone with our customer service team or by having to come into the South Holland District Council offices in person, and making the process online has both freed up additional time for our staff and also helped make it quicker and more accessible for many of our residents.

Such face-to-face and phone services continue to be available to all residents though, as we remain conscious that currently not everyone has access to a computer or has internet services in their area.

In the ever developing world of social media, we have recently relaunched the South Holland District Council Facebook page, with an enhanced emphasis across all our platforms of capturing the great things taking place through the council and across the district using creative digital media such as videos, photographs and graphics.

Check out the website here and visit our Facebook page here. See these developments for yourself and move forward with us.
