September is for many a time to of change and reflection. It's the new academic year, which brings with it many emotions for families and students. It's an expensive time regarding buying school and college items and a new challenge for those leaving home and heading to university. It's also a time to reflect on the past few months and look forward to the new season and towards Christmas and next year.

It's the same for myself as a councillor. When visiting different areas, I'm wondering if that particular scheme would work locally, as let's learn from other successes and indeed failings, as in my opinion, so many attractive parts of our country are spoilt by the sight of wheelie bins and their ridiculous policy of fortnightly collections. We should be proud of the fact that during extremely challenging financial pressures we have continued to provide the frontline services to our residents.

We have recently employed two community wardens, with responsibility to assist our team to deal with anti-social behaviour. In the first few weeks, the wardens were spending their time meeting groups and organisations, holding market stalls in all parts of the district in order to provide information and education. This was followed by patrolling our streets and being a visible presence.

They have issued 13 fixed penalty notices and issued a number of warnings. This enforcement was requested by our residents and I'm pleased to see this working. These wardens can be even more effective if incidents or concerns are reported, as this gives an accurate data in order to request or deploy our resources. Non-emergency policing issues should be reported on the 101 number and anti-social behaviour reported to SHDC on 01775 761161 or online.

The communities team is now very busy with preparations for our popular and successful pumpkin festival. This is truly an event for all ages and generates positive local media coverage for our area.

This weekend is the Tulip Events pride awards. I have been asked to make the opening speech and introduce the programme. This event showcases the many positive aspects of our community and recognises and rewards the often unsung heroes of that live amongst us and by the actions, they improve neighbourhoods, inspire others and make our communities stronger.
