Weekly meet-up sessions for gentlemen to launch in Crowland
Forget ladies who lunch… it’s time for men who brunch.
That is the message from a village cafe who will launch a weekly meet-up session for gentlemen this week.
Whether you are 19 or 90, you will be welcome to meet up with like-minded individuals and discuss the latest news or your own interests at The Old Copper Kettle in Crowland every Thursday.
“You hear about ladies who lunch, so let’s do men who brunch,” said owner Tracy Cleaver, who runs the cafe with husband Graham.
“We already do some meet-up groups and, before Covid, I’d worked at community pop up cafes.
“Once we got Covid out the way I had in mind some groups I’d like to get here.
“Ladies’ groups meet up a lot but there’s nothing for men.”
Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincs Mind - a values-based, mental health charity - are
already regulars at The Old Copper Kettle, meeting on Mondays for a good mood cafe, allowing people some important time to socialise.
Now Tracy - who took over the cafe before Covid but who has been open for business for about 18 months - hopes these new sessions can provide plenty of laughs and camaraderie for those who attend.
“My husband took retirement earlier this year and I think it’s been hard for him to adapt to the routine, so I said to him he’d be ideal to run it.
“We have a lot of people who come into the tea room, mainly men, who come in and have a cup of tea on their own.
“We’ll sit and chat to them but it’s just nice to do it as a proper thing.
“They can talk about hot topics, social issues or whatever they like.”
The Thursday sessions will be held weekly from 11am to 12.30pm and all are welcome to join in.
