Boxes of Hope Holbeach call on Harry Potter fans to support their JK Rowling-franchise-themed float for Spalding Flower Parade
A charity director is calling on all Harry Potter fans to help bring ‘extra magic’ to a Spalding’s movie-themed flower parade.
Mandy Baxter and her team at Boxes of Hope in Holbeach will be decorating their float based on the popular books and films by JK Rowling for Spalding Flower Parade.
Enthusiasts are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters from the series and come along to see the float, which is number 37 in the parade.
Ms Baxter said: “Our float is so good and I don’t want to reveal too much
“We really want fans to come to the parade and dress up and wave their wands.
“We’ve really gone to town. I can’t sleep I am so excited.”
Boxes of Hope, based in the High Street in Holbeach, provides essential items to those in need such as the conflict in Ukraine and for causes closer to home.
The float will be references to Hogwarts Express, quotes from Dumbledore ‘making kindness your magic’ and Platform 9¾.
She said: “It is unreal what has been achieved.
“The structure is made out of wood and we will probably auction it off after the parade to raise funds for Boxes Of Hope.”
Following a decade-long break the parade was brought back last year by organiser Stephen Timewell who promises this year’s event will be the biggest yet with around 200 volunteers involved.
He said: “Since the parade started in the 50s, there has never been a parade like it, this is certainly the biggest parade in Spalding’s history.”
With some 59 floats, trailers and community groups involved the event will attract more than 100,000 visitors to the town on the weekend of May 11 and 12.
