Weston Hills councillor calls for action to be taken on crossroads after 21st collision

Calls have been made to sort out a problematic crossroads before someone is killed.

District councillor Anthony Casson says 21 crashes have occurred around the Mill Drove and Fulney Drove crossroads on the outskirts of Weston Hills over the last eight months.

He has been calling for action to be taken along this road for sometime and receives regular alerts from nearby residents if a collision takes place close to the crossroads, which also leads off to Old Fendike Road and Clay Lake Bank.

The latest collision took place on Friday afternoon when two people were take to hospital.

Coun Casson has been calling for improved signage in a bid to reduce the accident numbers but would welcome any action.

He said: “It is time that Lincolnshire County Council’s highways and Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership think about doing something.

“I keep suggesting signage. There is a ‘give way’ sign on the Old Fendike Road side which could be replaced with a stop sign.

“They are not doing anything whatsoever to try and help the situation.

“I hope something is done before there is a death.

“We have had 21 crashes and that is a high number. There must be a cost for all of those services to keep going down there to clear up the debris and the police were there for ages.”

Mill Drove North had been closed for several months at its junction with the A16 at Cowbit and it is believed to have been reopened in November – when the accident records began.

Earlier this year Cowbit Parish Council expressed concerns about speeding near the crossroads and called for a lower speed limit. A Spalding woman also suffered serious injuries following a collision at the crossroads last year.

Police say they were called to reports of a two vehicle collision on Mill Drove North at 4.19pm on Friday which involved a blue Ford Ka and a black Hyundai IX20. A force spokesman said: “The driver and passenger of the Hyundai were taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.”

A Lincolnshire County Council spokesman said: “We welcome any comments around issues on the county’s road network and would recommend that anyone who wants to make a suggestion do so via their local county councillor who can take matter to assessment, planning and scrutiny for possible inclusion in the improvement works that we constantly carry out.”
