Men in South Holland targeted in new health campaign

A Spalding dad is helping a new campaign urging men to "Get It Seen and Get It Sorted".

Mark Le Sage, also a registered nurse, is drawing on his own experience of being diagnosed with the skin cancer, melanoma, to alert other men to the need for regular visits to their GP.

Working with Mark to spread the message is Dr Janarthanam Babu, of Beechfield Medical Centre, Spalding, who advised Mark to be screened for melanoma in December 2017.

Mark said: "I was lucky because my cancer was small.

"But I had seen it grow over a couple of months and although I never even considered that it may be melanoma, I decided to get it checked out by my GP.

"I know that men are normally really poor at going to see their doctor and they are far more likely to miss their appointments.

"But most of the time, a simple, early check-up, such as a blood test, is all that's needed."

Dr Babu said: "This initiative is all about awareness and not leaving things until the last minute.

"However, it is not just for patients of Beechfield Medical Center but for all the

patients of South Holland and the wider community as well."
