“It’s affected our lives!” Spalding family say car crash culprit didn’t receive stern enough sentence

A family whose lives have been affected by a crash caused by careless driving believe the culprit did not receive a stern enough sentence.

Charlotte Maycock was handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence with 200 hours unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days at Lincoln Crown Court on June 22 after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving.

She has also been disqualified from driving for two years.

But Kay Blackbourn, whose daughter Demi has been left with ongoing health problems following the incident, feels justice has not been done.

“It’s affected our lives, we’ve been back and forth to hospital while this lady can enjoy her life,” she said.

“We shouldn’t feel bitter, but we do.

“She’s walked away with a suspended sentence and enjoyed life.”

On December 23 last year Demi was the passenger in a car which was hit at the crossroads of Old Fendyke Road and Mill Drove North, near Weston Hills, when a Jaguar F-PACE pulled out into the path of a BMW, which was going about 40mph.

The BMW rolled three times before coming to rest upside down in a water-filled dyke.

Demi and driver Jordan Boraston could not release their seatbelts and feared for their lives before a passer-by cut them free using a penknife.

Mrs Blackbourn added that the incident has affected the whole family, which is based in Spalding.

“To see her (Demi) in so much pain when it happened was awful for us,” she continued.

“It’s been very emotional.

“It’s affected us all, including my daughter (Libby).

“She had to go through her GCSEs affected by anxiety and nerves.”
